Day 1. Arrival in Murmansk. Hunt for the Northern Lights
Murmansk arrival at an day, pick-up at the airport or train station and transfer to the hotel.
In the evening, join the group and head out to hunt for the northern lights*. Depending on the Aurora and cloud coverage forecast, the tour departs between 7 and 9.30 PM – the best time for spotting the Northern Lights near Murmansk. Our guide/photographer will take care of photos and we’ll provide a link to download them.
Overnight at the hotel.
* If the weather is bad and there is no chance to see the Lights due to snowstorm etc., the trip is shifted for the next evening.
Day 2. Teriberka village tour or Murmansk city tour
Breakfast.
In the morning, join a full day Teriberka tour*. During the trip, you’ll see the endless tundra without any tree, ship graveyard at the Barents Sea rocks, creepy old wooden houses of Teriberka fishing village, first mentioned in chronicles of the XVI century and have lunch with seafood/reindeer at one of the local restaurants (not incl. – choose and pay on the spot).
You can also participate in a side trip to the “Dragon eggs” beach on snowmobiles/foot or join a boat trip to see whales and dolphins thriving in the wild in the Barents Sea waters (conditions depending, extra payment applies).
If you decide to stay in the city, you may wish to attend a 2-hour city tour of Murmansk. Explore the town with the local English-speaking guide and see the Five Corners Square, Defenders of the Soviet Arctic memorial, Kursk submarine memorial and other attractions of Murmansk.
Overnight at the hotel.
*If the weather is right. It happens that the road to the village is closed due to heavy snowfall.
Day 3. Optional: Sami village / dog sledding / snowmobiling
Breakfast.
Visiting a Sami village*, dog sledding, snowmobiling and other activities might be available if your plane or train leaves in the afternoon or evening. Alternatively, allow an extra night in Murmansk. Please, note that these activities are not included into the price and are quoted separately.
Transfer to the airport in time for your flight.
A trip to the Sami (Saami) village (~6-7 hours). Transfer and tour of the reconstructed Sami settlement: see traditional lodges, reindeers and other northern animals, listen to the story about Sami people, play their games and ride a reindeer sleigh (in winter) or drive an ATV (in summer). Traditional soup and reindeer pilaf is served for lunch. Transfer back to Murmansk.
Northern Lights 3-day package autumn 2024 – spring 2025
Prices start from 32.000 Rubles (320 USD) per person in a double room, depending on hotel availability and rates.
Flexible departure dates between September and early April.
1. Roundtrip private airport transfers.
2. Accommodation for 2 nights in hotel Meridian (standard room), Cosmos (economy room) or Arctic Home (standard room).
3. Two breakfasts.
4. Teriberka and the Barents Sea Coast tour in a group or Murmansk private city tour.
