Day 1. Petrozavodsk and Kizhi

Our guide will meet your morning train from St. Petersburg or Moscow on the platform at the railway station of Petrozavodsk.
Transfer to the hotel to drop off the luggage.
Embark a hydrofoil and depart for the trip to Kizhi Island (standard trip time is 10:15 - 17:15).
Guided walking tour of Kizhi Museum.
Return to Petrozavodsk.
Overnight in Petrozavodsk.

Day 2. Petrozavodsk - Kinerma - Ruskeala - Petrozavodsk

09:00 - Pick-up by our guide at the hotel.
Transfer to Ruskeala park (260 km).
Aboveground tour to the marble quarries and mountain park of Ruskeala.
Free time for optional activities and lunch.
Transfer to the historical Karelian village of Kinerma (170 km).
Meet local Karely people, walk around the village and enjoy traditional cuisine.
Transfer to Petrozavodsk (110 km).
21:00 - Return to Petrozavodsk.
Overnight in Petrozavodsk.

Day 3. Petrozavodsk – Kivach Reserve - Church of Apostle Peter - Petrozavodsk

Meals B

Pick-up by our guide at the hotel.
Transfer to Kivach Nature Reserve (70 km).
Observe Kivach Waterfalls and visit the museum of local nature.
Walk along the nature trail; learn about typical taiga plants, birds and animals.
Transfer to Church of Apostle Peter. Visit the historical Church, built in 1721 by the order of Tzar Peter the Great.
Return to Petrozavodsk.
Free afternoon.
Pick up at the hotel and transfer to the railway station.

Located just 80 km from Petrozavodsk, Kivach Reserve is one of the most visited nature reserves in Russia. The main highlight of the reserve is Kivach waterfall. You can also visit the Museum of Nature and the arboretum with various species of plants, including the Karelian birch tree.

We were in Russia in June 2018. Main itinerary was to visit St Petersburg and Moscow. Enroute we did a slight detour to Kizhi Island - an open-air museum and UNESCO World Heritage site. To experience a different facet of Russia, we signed with Nordic Travel Discover Karelia 3D/2N tour. This tour brought us to the nature reserves, quaint villages and churches of Karelia. It was a pleasure dealing with Nordic Travel who were prompt and reliable. The transport was comfortable, driver safe and polite (a bonus!) and guide Olessya was warm, cheerful and accommodating. We were glad we saw and enjoyed thoroughly a Russia beyond the 2 main cities. Big Thanks to Nordic Travel!
