Veliky Novgorod Tour from St. Petersburg

At 08:00 in the morning, our driver* will pick you up at your hotel or another place of stay in St. Petersburg and you will set-off for the trip to Novgorod Veliky. It takes an average of 2h 30m to travel to Novgorod by car, over a distance of around 200 km.

Upon arrival in the city, proceed for the walking tour around the grounds of Novgorod Kremlin. You will see the red brick towers and walls of the fortress, the Millennium of Russia monument established in 1862, the 15^th Century Gothic Chamber of Facets and other historical buildings and monuments.

Visit the Cathedral of St. Sophia. Built in the XI Century, the church is famous for its ancient frescoes, icons and medieval Magdeburg Gates with plenty of artistic wrought bronze details.

Following the exploration of the Kremlin and St. Sofia, cross the footbridge over the Volkhov River for the walking tour around Yaroslav’s Court, a former Novgorod marketplace. Several important architectural monuments are located there, including St. Nicholas Cathedral (XII Century), the Church of Paraskeva the Friday (XIII Century), and the Church of St. George in the Marketplace (XIV).

After the tours, your guide will recommend a place for lunch. Later in the afternoon, you can make an optional visit to Novgorod Museum to see birch bark manuscripts and icons, or to Vitoslavlitsy Museum in the outskirts of Novgorod, known for its wooden architecture.

Travel back to St. Petersburg on the same vehicle and finish the tour at your hotel at around 20:00.

What kind of vehicles do you use?

We use comfortable vans like Mercedes Vito and Mercedes Viano. For smaller groups we use suitably sized cars, such as Skoda Octavia and Kia Sorento. For bigger groups we hire Mercedes Sprinter buses and 29 – 49 seat coaches.
First class vehicles like Mercedes S-class are available on request.
