Vitoslavitsy museum of wooden architecture cannot really match Kizhi but it is also worth visiting. Other interesting places in Novgorod region include Valdai National Park, town of Staraya Russa with Dostoevsky house-museum and Old-believers village of Lyakova. Trips in the Russian Arctic include the North Pole icebreaker expedition, ethnography tours to Nenets and Yamalo-Nenets regions and cruise along the Lena River.
Solovetsky Monastery or just Solovki is the most famous tourist destination in Arkhangelsk region. Tours to Solovetsky usually include the town of Kem in Karelia because of the easy boat connection between Kem and Solovki. Among the other tourist attractions of the region are the city of Arkhangelsk, town of Kargopol with interesting old churches and Kenozero National Park with nature trails and ethnographic programs. One can take a boat trip or a cruise on the Severnaya Dvina River. One of the vessels involved is “Nickolai Gogol” steamer build in 1911 and still in the operation.
The Kola Peninsula attracts visitors from all over the world looking for a chance to see Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights. Other popular tours and activities include dog and reindeer sledding, snowmobiling, ice fishing, visiting Saami native people and tasting local cuisine. The Barents Sea coast near Teriberka village and Khibiny Mountains are picturesque places good for walking in nature and making photos.
